Equinox

With the equinox just behind us ~ and the days that are now notably longer than even a couple of weeks ago ~ it reminds me that the traditional Dutch term for ‘equinox’ is quite descriptive. It is called the “Spring moment in which day and night have equal lengths”.
Either way, from this moment on until the Fall equinox, for us living on the Northern Hemisphere the days are longer that the nights. The further north we live, the longer the days will get. And with it comes a time of activity. Of being more outdoors. Enjoying the sun; the weather, and yes, our activities…

Whatever plans we had made during the Winter months, with the equinox the time has arrived to put the plan in to action. To ride the wave of active energy and the lengthening days.

The problem with that often is that by now we have forgotten whatever plans and resolutions we had three months ago. In the meantime life happened, and we moved on with it. And with the passing of Winter, chances are we let go of our resolutions and modified our plans to the point where we won’t feel guilty when we decide to not go for them this year. Because this year there are all these things going on. We are busy with our jobs, our families. And let’s face it, having the paycheck at the end of the month is more important than going for a plan that may not succeed. After all, there will be enough time to get going on it later, when the moment is right. When finances are easier. When things aren’t so busy…
And so we push our plans away, waiting for that perfect moment to arrive in which we can make them happen. Finally.

It is something that can happen all too easily to us. No big deal, right? Or is it?

Because, while on on hand it is not a big deal, on the other bandit means that we are putting our lives on hold. That we stop ourselves from reaching for the stars; for the best we can be.
And with every year we push our plans ~ our dreams ~ into the future, another cycle of the seasons passes. Until we reach that time when life is more quiet, more easy-going. So much so that we may realize that the time to make our plans happen, has passed us by long time ago.

So perhaps this is the time to start moving on our plans, whether it is the perfect time ~ from our perspective ~ or not. Whether we can make big leaps forward, or only dare take baby steps doesn’t really matter…

What are your plans for this Spring?
